Storm Update: Flooding, Crashes Close NJ Roads

Following fierce storms swept through the region Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, many roadways were still flooded and wet, making for treacherous commutes Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The Morris County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Unit was called to Madison to assist with helping citizens experiencing flooding in their neighborhood.

As of 8 a.m., Route 17 north was closed in Hasbrouck Heights at Route 46 due to flooding.

The borough's fire department shared scenes from local streets.

The Hackensack Fire Department put out an alert saying half of the city is flooded.

"Do not drive into any flooded areas. Please avoid Hackensack if possible. If you're out on the road find a diner somewhere to eat or a dry spot and just wait till the water recedes," the tweet reads.

The Morris County Sheriff's Office's Emergency Service United responded to Madison to assist drivers stuck in rising waters.

Several streets in Englewood and Leonia were under several feet of water.

The NWS said flash flooding concerns will last through the weekend.

The slick roads may have contributed to many crashes across the state reported by the NJDOT.

In Woodcliff Lake, a vehicle ran off the roadway on the Garden State Parkway south, north of Exit 171.

In Delran, all lanes were closed on Route 130 north of Taylors Lane bringing traffic to a standstill due to a crash and downed pole.

At 8:15 a.m., there was a crash on Route 1 south in New Brunswick, south of Route 18.

A watermain break closed all eastbound lanes of Route 28 in Roselle Park, west of Gordon Street.

A crash with injuries took out two lanes of Route 21 in Clifton.
